Resonance X: 10 Years of Artawa

🎨 Artawa 10th Anniversary Show: Resonance
Supported by Wallack’s & the City of Ottawa

Artawa is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this November! We are hosting a group exhibition at Beyond the Pale (City Center) to celebrate through the month of November until the new year. Artists from the Ottawa / Gatineau regions are welcome to submit works to be displayed and sold.

As an artist you will create and price your own work. Artists must provide their own materials as per the required specifications below. It can be a painting, drawing, low relief sculpture, or mixed media. One entry per person. All works submitted must be 12″ x 12″ gallery stretched or gallery depth canvases or panels and ready to hang.

Work is to be submitted during the dates below. There will be an opening party on November 5th at Beyond the Pale when sales will begin. Sales are to be made in cash in person at Beyond the Pale (City Center). Artists receive 70% of sales. Artists with sold work will be contacted for payment after the event. No e-transfers will be made.

🖼️ The Theme: Resonance

To resonate is to evoke a shared feeling: a vibration that continues long after the initial strike. As Artawa celebrates a decade of collective creativity alongside Ottawa’s 200th anniversary, we are looking for works that explore the “echoes” between our personal artistic journeys and the enduring spirit of our city.

Whether it is the resonance of a memory, a connection to the local landscape, or the vibration of a community growing together, we want to see how your work ripples outward.

What part of my art resonates with others? * How does my work echo the history of this city? * What “vibration” do I want to leave behind for the next 10 years?

Note: No pre-existing work! This must be created specifically for this 10th-anniversary show.

✨Broad Prompts to Spark Ideas:

  • What is your signature style?
  • What do you love most about the Ottawa/Gatineau area?
  • What “vibration” or legacy do you want your art to leave behind?
  • Examples: Your favorite subject, a self-portrait, or a local landmark.

📏 RULES

To keep the show cohesive, all entries must follow these specs:

  • Size: Exactly 12″ x 12″ x 1.75″ (Gallery depth wood panel or canvas).
  • Follow the theme to the best of your ability
  • Quantity: Strictly one entry per person.
  • Tag: Must include a completed tag attached to the back of the work. See Template.
  • Write your name on the back of the work
  • Dimensions: 3D/Relief elements cannot stick out more than 2″ from the surface.
  • Ready to Hang: Must be wired on the back. See Diagram Below
  • Pricing: Please price work in amounts that are easy to pay for in cash.
  • Payment: Sold work will be paid out in person in cash by Dan Martelock after the event.

📍 HOW TO HAND IN YOUR WORK

Bring your completed work in person at one of the following times:

Sundays Oct 25 & Nov 1st at Beyond the Pale 250 City Centre 11-4pm
