Group Exhibition
Reclaiming our sense of identity and belonging in a post pandemic environment
Emergence is a group exhibition initiated by Artawa, and hosted at the Art House Cafe in Ottawa in June 2023.
Artawa is a non-exclusive, open to public community of artists that encourages and rewards participation and to help advance the overall art community in the National Capital Region. Emergence is a visualization of the effects that social upheaval, isolation and a shifting political environment have taken on the artist as an individual as well as a community member in a post-pandemic world.
The term “emergence” is a process of coming into view or becoming exposed after being concealed. It is a process of coming into being, or of becoming important, prominent or meaningful. As artists we are all adjusting to the “new normal” and reassessing where our values lie, our goals as a society and a re-defining of the self.
We are inviting creators to share their experiences in the form of painting, drawing, mixed media and/or collage for this group exhibition.
Submission Guidelines
You must be a resident of the National Capital Region to participate. This includes but is not limited to Ottawa, Gatineau, and surrounding areas. The idea is to give priority to Artawa community members.
All submissions must be created on pre-wired 12” x 12” gallery stretched canvases *OR* cradled wood panel available for purchase through Artawa co-founder Kina Forney for $20 via e-transfer to kina@kina-ink.com with the note “Emergence” and your choice of wood or canvas as well in the e-transfer details. Please contact Kina for alternate arrangements. Limit of 3 canvases and/or panels per artist. Total of 63 spaces available, first come first served!
Once paid for, canvases can be picked up:
- at monthly Artawa Meetups, see events page for upcoming meetings.
- from the studio of Kina Forney by appointment only
- Contact Kina personally for pickup arrangements once you’ve sent payment

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES is May 28th, 2023. All artists must complete a submission form before handing in their work(s). Finished, dried artworks can be handed in at Artawa meetings or at the Art House Cafe on May 31st. Do not drop off completed works at the Art House Cafe before May 31st. If you need to make alternate drop off arrangements, please contact info@artawa.ca .
Show Time
The vernissage (official opening night party) for Emergence will be Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 7pm – 10pm at the Art House Cafe, 555 Somerset St W. Works will be on display for the month of June in the Art House will collect 30% commission on all sales. Kina Forney will be your point of contact for all show queries, not Art House staff.
