They are poured onto wood panels using a variety of techniques to create the desired effects.

Vernissage : Thursday January 9 7pm-10pm. Free.

Artist statement:
Perspectives is a collection of fluid art or “poured” paintings. I usually use epoxy resin mixed with acrylic paint or pigment; occasionally I will use other pouring mediums depending on the desired effect. Lately I have been obsessed with the colour blue so many of the paintings within this series are either partly or entirely made using this colour. When creating fluid art and using materials like epoxy resin, time becomes a major factor during the creative process since it dictates how long I have to paint until the epoxy becomes unusable and I either have to call it done or wait for a period of time to begin again. In this way, the act of painting becomes almost like a dance – dancing with time as well as with how the paint naturally interacts with itself, giving it the freedom to react naturally while also maintaining some control over the outcome. I think of the pieces in this series as snapshots or moments in time. For me they represent the natural world of water, clouds, sky, ice, rock, and anything that flows or was once fluid. Additionally, since they are abstract paintings with lots of movement I think they provide the possibility of seeing different inherent images and shapes which vary depending on the viewer. In this way, I believe that the audience is as integral as I am in bringing these paintings to life.

Artist bio:
Heather Sita Black was born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1983. Having
grown up in the Ottawa Valley for part of her childhood, she
developed a love and an appreciation for the natural world.
Although largely a self taught artist, Heather studied painting,
drawing, and sculpture in both formal and informal settings
during her teenage years and throughout her twenties. Oil
painting became her medium of choice, which she used in her
surrealist and figurative works.

In recent years, Heather has explored the realm of abstract
painting through mixed media fluid art, including epoxy resin,
acrylics and other pouring mediums. In addition to being a visual artist, Heather is also a musician and actor with a passion for improvising on stage. This improvisation also manifests itself
through the experimental and spontaneous process she uses to
create her abstract art pieces. This fluid art is meant to capture
and depict Heather’s greatest inspiration: the natural world.
