History, Collecting and the Art Object

What are the implications of past choices on future collection practices? Is an object altered by becoming part of an institution’s collection; is the institution altered? How are contemporary artists re-visiting historical narratives and forms of representation in their work?

Join artists, curators and academics at the National Gallery of Canada as they discuss history, collecting and the art object. Participants include Shannon Bool, David Hartt, Robert Houle, Johanne Lamoureux, lessLIE, Landon Mackenzie, Diana Nemiroff, Jamasee Pitseolak, Hajra Waheed and Stan Douglas.
